Cliff Simon Joins the Project

As mentioned in an earlier blog entry, I've been busy over the past couple of weeks, hammering out the details of a very important contract. Well, now it's official. Stargate: SG1's favourite bad-ass Goa'ud, Cliff Simon (Ba'al) has signed on to allow his image to be used for the character of billionaire Kyle Raines in The Black Tower comic book series, the first issue of which is being written and drawn at this very moment.

Artist: Chris McFann
Although I intend to pitch the comic book series proposal to Image Comics sometime in late January/early February, if they reject the proposal (and they'd be very foolish to do so) I intend to launch The Black Tower as a long-running (6 year) online webcomic series. The official website for the comics is already in development (EDIT: it's now up and running), so it won't take much effort to add a comic book page reader to the mix.
One way or another, this bird is going to fly!

Nice choice. I'm impressed with your "get" on that one. Does that mean he's interested in joining the actual show?

Yup. Cliff and I met online a couple of years ago on the Galaxy of Stars message board, where he interacts with his fans. Right from the get-go he was interested in auditioning for/starring in the TV series as Kyle Raines, and he kept the faith as I continued to knock on doors trying to secure a development deal. But, y'know, after being turned down by 60 to 70prodcos over the past few years, I finally gave up and decided to just concentrate on the comic book series, which was originally supposed to run concurrently with the TV show, as NBC has done with 'Heroes'.

I plan to write/produce several live-action YouTube video shorts that will feature numerous actors (newbies, semi-pros and mega-stars) as in-the-flesh versions of the comic book characters, Cliff included. I'm already working out deals with other actors who've told me they want to be involved with the project.

However, everything depends on money, and the popularity of the comics. If they do exceptionally well, and I make shitloads of cash, I'll put most of that into producing the short videos.

So, I've got lots of plans, and everything is falling nicely into place, so far. It's paying for everything that's killing me!! :-(

For fans of Cliff Simon who haven't seen it yet, HERE’s a special Holiday greeting from Cliff and actor friend, J.R. Bourne, at a GateCon convention in England.
